Giuseppe Sermonetta’s “Un glossario filosofico ebraico-italiano del XIII secolo” explores a 13th-century Hebrew-Italian medieval philosophical glossary attributed to Moses ben Solomon of Salerno (who died in 1279).

This Judeo-Italian glossary was compiled mainly from the philosophical terms introduced by Samuel Ibn Tibbon (ca 1160- ca 1230) in “Moreh ha-Nevukhim,” his Hebrew translation of Maimonides’s “Dalalat al-Ha’irim” (Guide of the Perplexed). The need for such a glossary was already evident to Ibn Tibbon himself. Thus, about four years after he completed his translation, he prepared an alphabetical glossary, with a lengthy introduction and brief commentary, of the philosophical terms used in that translation.

Some shelf-wear, with spine faded, and closed tears along upper joints. Upper back corner bumped, thus slightly affecting pages. Previous owner’s name in ink at upper margin of front free endpaper (Isaac Rabinowitz). Text in Italian. Wrappers in overall fair to good-, interior in good+ to very good condition. g- to vg.
