n/a. The Jews of Italy. Fireside Discussion Group of the Anti-Defamation League B’Nai B’rith No. XXIV. Chicago: Firside Discussion Group, 1939. First edition. Octavo. 23pp. Original cream wraps with black lettering and ruling on cover. Three 1937 quotes of Mussolini, containing pro-Jewish and equality in law messages, on inside front cover. Extensive essay on “2,000 Year Struggle” of the Jews in Italy, reaching as far back as Simon Maccabeus, 210 years before the Temple was destroyed.

The pamphlet describes July 14, 1939, the day a racial program was put in place, holding most Italians as Aryans, excluding the Jews, and consequently not members of the Italian race. The program was drawn up by Fascist university professors and it was still July 1939 when newspapers began to feature attacks against Jews. This is an in-depth report describing the historical development of the time in Italy, accentuating the incongruence in Italy’s treatment of the Jews. Contains a short questionaire regarding the treatment of the Jewish people in Italy and bibliography at rear. Light wear along edges of wraps. Very good condition. (50385) $65
