It aimed to see and to reproduce them as they appeared in their own day and among their own people. This study is profusely illustrated with 13 steel engravings (including frontispiece) by Bartlett, each one being protected with a tissue-guard. Some age-wear on binding with rubbing along edges and soiling on spine and covers. Lower part of endpapers at rear damp-stained, slightly affecting the very last pages.
