Feuchtwanger had published anti-Nazi pieces since the early 1920s and his name appeared on the first list of people to be expatriated by the Nazis. Feuchtwanger was guest of the German Ambassador in Washington when Hitler became German Chancellor on January 30, 1933. The Ambassador Prittwitz resigned from the German diplomatic service the next day, called Feuchtwanger and implored him not to return to Germany. Sanary-sur-Mer in France was what one might call a prolonged stopover for the Feuchtwanger family before emigrating to the USA after the German occupation of France in 1941. Wraps with some chipping along edges. Staining due to water exposure on many pages along bottom and lower half of foredge, pages not wavy though. Fair condition. Softcover. (52455) $65
