Vladimir Jankelevitch (1903-1985), Philosopher. Born in Bourges, France, he taught in Prague, Czechoslovakia, and Toulouse, France, and then in Lille, France, until he was dismissed by the Vichy government in 1940. After WW2 he was professor at Lille and then at the Sorbonne, Paris. His writings are influenced by Henri Bergson, and some deal with the metaphysics of time. Jankelevich was also a musicologist writing on 20th century French composers. (17218) $75
