First edition of About’s memoirs of his travel to an Egypt under the reign of Ismail the Magnificent (Ismail-Pacha), in the 1860s.

The author claims to be the friend of Ismail-Pacha, and this work is his description of the fellah (native paesant) at work for the powerful Khedive of Egypt and Sudan.

Binding partly age-toned and rubbed along edges. Original wrappers sunned. Minor and sporadic foxing throughout.
