The work and thinking of Marcel Duchamp influenced the development of art in the USA and Europe, particularly in the years around and after 1960. When declaring found objects to be art, in order to end his engagement in “painting,” and retreating completely to create a “silence,”… the negation created positive impulses, triggered by Pop-Art artists in New York and the “Nouveaux Réalistes” in Paris, and by artists in Düsseldorf and Berlin. In 1964 Joseph Beuys created an artwork entitled “The Silence of Marcel Duchamp is Overvalued.” (Intro by Siegfried Gohr).
The publication is profusely illustrated with color and b/w reproductions of art by Duchamp throughout. Contains Duchamp biography, bibliography, filmography and list of lenders at rear. Text in German. Light wear along edges of covers. Near fine condition. Softcover. (55312) $75
