XXXII, 573 pp. Three quarter leather over green covered boards. This is an English edition of the first German edition published at Berlin in 1890. The author of the original German edition, Rudolf Lange (1850-1933) was lecturer for Japanese at what was then, the newly established Department for Oriental Languages in Berlin. This work was so comprehensive, the original German and this English edition, are both still used by students of the Japanese language today. Text is in English and English transliteration of Japanese. Age wear and scuffing to leather and wrappers. Peeling and staining to cloth. Binding has been reinforced with green binder’s tape along front and rear endpapers. Signature of former owner in blue ink on front endpaper. Some yellowing to pages due to age.
