Denwood, Philip. The Tibetan Carpet. Warminster: Aris and Phillips Ltd, 1974. First edition. Folio. IX, [1], 101, [1]pp. Original photo-illustrated dust-jacket over gilt stamped cloth, with gold lettering on spine. Pictorial endpapers. Tipped-in color frontispiece. Literature on the Tibetan carpet is scant. In spite of the fact that many traditional techniques of spinning, dyeing, and weaving are used to the present day, making first-hand accounts possible, authors have a tendency to prefix or suffix their remarks on the subject with an apology that little or nothing is known of the Tibetan carpet. Philip Denwood has broken new ground in this book. It is the first thorough investigation thus far and includes a detailed account of weaving techniques employed among Tibetan refugees as well as a historical survey into the origins of the craft. This volume is profusely illustrated with 85 b/w illustrations, and 25 color photographic reproductions. Some creasing, age-toning and sporadic closed tears along edges of dust-jacket. DJ in overall fair, binding and interior in good+ to very good condition. g to g+. Hardcover. (38073) $75
