Fascinating work containing the report on the excavations at Tulûl Abú el-‘Alâyiq by the American School of Oriental Research at Jerusalem, under the direction of Professors A. H. Detweiler, James B. Pritchard and F. V. Winnett. It contains the description of a large building which has been found south of the so-called sunken gardens of the 1950 campaign, and catalogues of the pottery found at the site, the coins and other objects. Apart from the pottery of the Herodian period, great quantities of Chalcolithic-Early Bronze Age pottery was found and is described here. The catalogue of Roman coins was made by Sherman E. Johnson and the catalogue of Islamic coins by George C. Miles. This work is profusely illustrated with 66 pages of plates, including a folding map. Slight soiling on covers.
