“Frank Horvat is undoubtedly among the most important photographers of the twentieth century. And behind his exceptionally multifaceted work stands an exceptionally multifaceted person. At the age of sixteeen, as he began his own biography, he still wanted to be a writer. He somehow also–indirectly–became one, only that he does not use a pen, but rather a camera and light. Many of the pictures resemble ballads, short stories, or social commentaries, and, as a whole, over a period of six decades, Horvat has created an extraordinary life’s work, comparable to a momentous novel.” (Harder).
