This work, like many others, was actually written by publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel (1814-1886) himself under the pseudonym P.J. Stahl. Profusely illustrated throughout with b/w images by noted Danish artist Lorenz Frølich (1820-1908). Extensive 8-page publisher’s catalog at the rear, with additional ads printed on the back cover.

Text throughout in French.

Binding with some light rubbing and bumping to extremities. Covers age toned, with some light staining and smudges. The first two leaves after the frontispiece are detached but present. Light stains and minor foxing, mostly in the margins, throughout. Binding and interior in good condition overall. Protected in modern mylar. g. Hardcover.
