During the terrible years of the First World War, some women, who had fled Poland, Russia and Romania and found shelter in Istanbul, initiated an admirable action of solidarity and assistance that constitutes an unequaled example of cooperation in the most adverse circumstances. In 1915, two immigrant women named Rezi and Frimondi, who lived a life of destitution and squalor, decided to extend a helping hand to older and even poorer people who were waging a losing battle against misery and wretchedness.” Profusely illustrated with color and b/w reproductions of photographs showing members, volunteers, etc. Text in Turkish and English.
