First edition of this scarce and fascinating work on the History of Zionism, from the beginning of the 17th century to the end of World War I. It is profusely illustrated with 90 portraits (including frontispieces) and b/w illustrations. Ex-library copy with library stamps on text block edges, and on free front endpapers. Library identification stickers on front covers and spines. Library pocket on free front endpaper of each volume. Some edgewear on bindings with damp-staining on back cover of first volume (not affecting pages), and spines somewhat faded. Moderate soiling and rubbing on boards. Head and tail of spines slightly chipped. Bookplate and inscription of previous owner (Rabbi S. M. Neches) at rear of front cover of first volume, and bookplate of Nathan Zuckerman at rear of front cover of second volume. Hinges starting. Slight age-toning along paper margin.
