Quarto. 44, 48pp. Two original gray wrappers with green, respectively blue lettering and color cartoon pasted to each cover bound in three quarter black leather over pebbled cloth with gilt lettering on cover. Illustrated ads on inside and back covers. ‘The Bystander’ is a British weekly tabloid established in 1903. The weekly was particularly popular among British soldiers in the trenches of France during W.W.I for its ‘Old Bill’ cartoons by Bruce Bairnsfather who had become a household name in England. Binding with wear along edges and spine. The two weeklies bound in in reverse order, volume two up front followed by volume one. Title page and last page of volume two loose but present. Pages 19-26 of volume two separated from block at bottom up to middle of pages. Some age-toning. Binding in overall fair, wraps and interior of volume two in good- , wraps and interior of volume one in very good condition. fair to vg. Hardcover. (38372) $45
