Austrian-born Berthold Viertel (1885-1953) and his wife Salka Viertel (1889-1978) came to Los Angeles in 1928. Viertel worked for Fox, Paramount and Warner Brothers and also became a respected theater director. They eventually planned to return to Germany but by 1932, with Hitler’s popularity increasing, they decided against it and remained in America until 1949. (17867) $95
