Frontispiece b/w reproduction of a photograph showing Reverend Sabato Morais. “One Wednesday evening, April 18, 1923 (Iyar 2, 5683), the Congregation Mikveh Israel in the City of Philadelphia celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Sabato Morais by a meeting in its Synagogue. The occasion was marked by the delivery of commemorative addresses, the unveiling of a bronze tablet, and the reading of an appropriate religious service…The proceedings of the meeting, together with photographs of the memorial tablet and medal, are here published by order of the Congregation.” Sabato Morais (1823-1897) was an Italian-American rabbi, leader of Mikveh Israel Synagogue, pioneer of Italian Jewish Studies in America, and founder of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. Some age wear, scuffing, creasing and sunning on wraps. Dated and signed in pencil by previous owner on free front endpaper. Wraps in good, interior in very good to near fine condition. Scarce. vg.
