Olga Volozova is a Los Angeles-based artist and writer. She uses the name Olesya Volk for her paintings. Born in Baku, Azerbajan, she moved to Moscow at the age of 16. There, she graduated with a P.H.D. in art from the State Institute of Theatre Arts and started publishing her tales and puppet plays. She was a member of Moscow Playwrights Union. After moving to the U.S., she received an MFA in film & TV (animation) from UCLA. In her paintings she explores patterns of nature, mostly tree bark, as a means of intuitive “readings” and leaps into primordial language. She often uses the old Flemish technique, with its layers of glazes; the technique reminds her of natural tree growth. She also makes small dioramas and paper theatre, the style she loves to explore in her picture books and graphic novels. All of her work investigates and plays with mythology, folklore, dream world and fairy tales. She exhibits often in Los Angeles and around the world. (54545) $75
