Preller, Ludwig (1809–1861), German philologist and antiquarian, born in Hamburg. After having studied in Leipzig, Berlin and Gottingen, in 1838 he was appointed to the professorship of philology at the University of Tartu, Estonia, from which he resigned in 1843. He then spent some time in Italy and settled in Jena in 1844, where he became professor in 1846. In the same year he moved as head librarian to Weimar, where he died. (19780) $95
