Haiman, Mordechai. Archaeological Survey of Israel: Map of Har Hamran Southwest (198) 10-00. Jerusalem: Department of Antiquities and Museums, 1986. First edition. Quarto. 129, [1], 244pp. Original photo-illustrated wrappers. This work is the first of the Negev Emergency Survey’s systematic data publications. The Emergency Survey began in 1978, following the signing of the peace agreement with Egypt. The evacuation of Sinai by the Israel Defense Forces, and their redeployment in the Negev, constituted a serious threat to the region’s ancient remains, and necessitated a prompt and wide-ranging archaeological effort. At the instigation of Avi Eitan, director of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, with the aid and encouragment of Prof. Benjamin Mazar, and the support of the Archaeological Council of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Negev Emergency Survey, in which all the archaeological institutions participated, was initiated. This work is profusely illustrated with numerous b/w illustrations and photographic reproductions, and is complete with its large folding map on inside of front cover (English text). Moderate creasing on front wrap. Text in Hebrew and English. Wrappers in overall good, interior in very good condition. g. Softcover. (34620) $75
