Collection of legends surrounding the character of the Golem of Prague, a man of clay supposedly brought to life by means of a cabalistic ceremony by Rabbi Judah Loew of Prague. In some of the popular accounts the Golem’s purpose was to patrol the Jewish ghetto to guard against Christians attempting to frame Jews with blood libel accusations. Illustrated with ten b/w reproductions of photographs and artwork. Translated by Harry Schneiderman with prefatory note by Hans Ludwig Held. Text in English, translated from the German. Binding with light wear along edges, spine sunned. Light pencil markings on title page, inked number on in lower left margin of dedication page. Some remnants of removed paper on inside back cover.
