Inscribed by author to Jacob Rader Marcus (1896 – 1995) who was a scholar of Jewish history and a Reform rabbi. who devoted host of his career to the study of American Jewish history and founded the American Jewish Archives in Cincinnati in 1947. He is, perhaps, best known for his work on Medieval European Jewish history, “The Jew in the Medieval World: A Source Book: 315-1791” first published in 1938. Sunning to spine and wrappers. Marginal pencil notes and underlining throughout as well as a small note about the Tosefta in red pencil on rear cover, otherwise book is in very good condition. vg. Softcover.
The author, Jacob Zallel Lauterbach (1873 – 1942) was an American Judaic scholar and author who served on the faculty of Hebrew Union College and composed responsa for the Reform movement in America.
