Original blue handmade paper wraps with white lettering on cover. Fantasy drawings have an early precedent in Oldenburg’s schooldays where his talent enabled him to give form to erotic activities that interested him and his fellow students. In his Coca-Cola ads of the late 1940s he depicted typical everyday American life with female figures who were naked or half-dressed. Oldenburg’s first erotic fantasy drawings were done in 1956. This pristine exhibition catalog for the 1975 show at the Mayor Gallery contains reproductions of 14 of the 21 exhibited drawings, printed in black on pale, yellow background, and a b/w portrait photograph of Oldenburg by Zana Malin. “The drawings as a whole evoke something of the extraordinary range of states of mind which sexual experience can open up, from happy innocence to disturbing violence.” (Richard Morphet). Faint marks at lower part of wraps on both sides. Wraps in overall near fine condition, interior in fine condition. near fine to fine. Softcover. (40208) $75
