“Dr. Heim, the leading geologist of Switzerland, was in command of a Swiss expedition to parts of the Himalayas that were to all intents unknown. The purpose of the expedition was mainly geological and was concerned chiefly with the Central Himalayas; during their eight months’ journey the travelers crossed the frontiers of both Tibet and Nepal. Traveling with no elaborate retinue, the expedition contrived to bring back a number of valuable results. The authors here recount their experiences and discoveries, with their observations of the lives of men, animals, and plants, not only among the crags and glaciers of the high mountains, but also on the way thither.” (Publisher).
